Can you make money off a youtube video with music in it?

I uploaded a video with a song in it and youtube identified it. They put up this notification that I am not the owner or something but they said there would still be ads on the video. Will I be the one making money from the ads?

Hell no, you won’t be making money off it. It’s someone elses content, you infringed copyright, now they have slapped an ad on it so that they can make money off it, which gives you permission to leave it up. Some companies have it automatically taken down, some companies choose to make a deal with youtube that if it’s their content and gets matches, they will earn money off it and let random uploaders leave their videos up. They have to get something out of it otherwise they’d just have your video removed.

Year 10 Work Experience Melbourne Ideas?

I would like to do work experience within the music industry or media industry. More so the music industry. Any ideas on where I could do it in Melbourne?
I’ve tried Frontier Touring, Boomtown Records, can’t get a hold of Universal Music Records or EMI Records but so far I have nothing.
Help would be appreciated.

Why not write and ring your local radio stations?! They might help if you are keen and keep asking them. Ask local papers to do work experience. Start small first.

Are you a fan of NEW Kings Of Leon?

I’m a rare breed in that i like Kings of Leon’s older material (youth and young manhood, because of the times) however i also like their new, more alternative rock based music. I was 13 when i first noticed them (16 now) and sure, their style of music has changed and developed from those raw, unpolished, long-haired maniacs we all knew and loved. However, i feel that sometimes a band has to change if they ever want to develop and mature. ‘

Selling out’ in today’s world is ubiquitous: nearly every band will be accused of selling out by die-hard fans for a change in musical direction and, to be honest, i find it small-minded to constantly dismiss a band that signs to a major record label or starts playing massive gigs. KOL should NOT be criticized for promulgating their talents. I mean, the Sex Pistols were signed to EMI for God-sake!

It’s not like they’ve gone all pop-rock on us – they still play kick-ass alternative rock with a fury.

I, for one, will always follow them: though i can understand why some would become disillusioned with their new style.

I love them. Very talented band.

but….my new favorite is Mumford & sons.

I used to work for an internet service provider so I know first hand that they could stop file sharing tomorrow if the law allowed.

Do you think that all music should be free?
Or
Do you feel that musicians should be able to retain some degree of control over how their music is distributed?

I ask because recently parts of Warner and EMI went up for sale reducing the Four majors down to two, Sony and Universal.

Meaning less room for risky ventures and more safe bets
i.e. X factor, American Idol, Celebrity Kids

Technology developments sich as 7.1 Surround sound, DVD audio and Microphones that record accurately down to 50hz are not progressing because consumers seem less concerned with quality.

However I have heard, on more then one occasion, people argue that attempting to control the distribution of music and movies is an invasion of human rights.

No it wouldn’t but it would be nice for us teenagers who don’t have much money if the cds were a little cheaper x

How come Everyone thinks Michael Jackson owns The Beatles Recording? EMI Says They Own the Master Tapes?

Well in all the news stories State that EMI Ltd holds the copyrights to the The Beatles and Solo (except Paul`s Solo music) master tapes and The Beatles tried to sue EMI Ltd to take ownership of The Master Tapes and The Beatles lost the case! I seen the Masters in the EMI vaults they are labeled propriety of EMI. And EMI files The lawsuits who infringe on the Copyrights of the The Beatles music. MJ does not have anything to do with EMI or the master tapes. You can look on any Beatles Album or any TV program they list they got the music from EMI and is copyrighted by EMI. Only thing MJ owns Is the the Publishing rights!

Michael Jackson’s Estate owns the majority of The Beatles songs. The estimated value of this catalog -in 2009- was 1.1 Billion dollers US. Long term royalties have been estimated to be five times that. EMI may own the master tapes; but these are really only historical documents. The cans are the property of EMI, and when the original printing on albums etc. was done; they owned the -temporary- copywrites. This changes when the owner of the copywrite; (the song’s author), makes a written agreement -an ‘Exclusive Grant’- to assign the copywrite to another organization, such as a publisher. Copywrites can be bought, sold, willed to others, or given away. In 1985, Michael Jackson Holdings bought the publishing rights to 159 or 251 Beatles songs (depending which company is counting), for 47.5 million dollers. This means that the Michael Jackson estate gets a royalty whenever a Beatles song is played or printed. Selling copywrites restricts the future use of the works by the author. Therefore, there is often artist negotiation; but Michael Jackson would not. Paul MacCartney describes the discussion he had -somewhat bitterly- on an appearance on the David Letterman show. (Note that ‘Lennon-MacCartney’ will always get a 50% share of the writers royalties). The EMI suit you’re referring to is the 2005 case, when the ex-Beatles sued them for 54 million dollers in unpaid royalties. Also not to be confused with the 1969 Lew Grade take-over bid of Northern Songs. In 1995 Sony Corp. paid Michael Jackson 95 million dollers to merge these ATV songs into a 50/50 joint venture called ‘Sony/ATV Publishing’.

There are mix tapes and remixes all over music blogs these days (sites like Camel Back Music and Remix Nation) done by artists on all four of the major labels (Universal, Sony, Warner, EMI) I’ve never downloaded anything illegal and don’t plan to, but from my understanding, you can download songs for free if its done independently by the artist without the aid of the record label. If I’m not correct, can someone clarify this for me?

Is a 1973 " Band On The Run " album worth anything to collectors?

The album cover does have some abrasions on the outside caused by the record inside it around where the edge of the record stops. The music is by Paul McCartney, Linda McCartney, and Denny Laine. All selections published by McCartney Music Inc. / ATV Music Corp. / BMI. 1973 EMI Records Ltd. Any help would be very appreciated.

In the condition you describe, a few dollars., when they do sell, at eBay. The shipping costs more than what the bids are for the LP, total averaging $5-$6. If you’ve got the poster, you might get $8 total.
