Chronic Bronchitis and Emphysema.

When you have chronic obstructive pulomonary disease (COPD), you will find it difficult to breathe. Most commonly it is caused by a lifetime of smoking.

There is often two diseases associated with COPD.

The airways to the lungs also referred to as bronchial tubes get inflamed and produce a lot of mucus with chronic bronchitis. Mucus produced to fight the inflamation soon narrows and even blocks the airway.

Healthy people have lungs with tiny ballons or air sacs. These tiny air sacs adjust to accept air into the lungs, as you breathe they increase and decrease in size. But a person with emphysema has no stretch left in the air sacs from previous damage to the lungs. The difficulty breathing is because less air is getting to the lungs.
