Anyone know where to find a serious buyer for a 60s-80s RECORD COLLECTION?

I’ve got an excessive record collection that my grandfather collected for many years. Just to give you a little bit of his background, he was a DJ here in Chicago from the early 60’s, until his passing in 1986 (lot of Jazz, and Promos). To say he was meticulous might be an understatement. Every album is in excellent condition, with no scratches. All covers are in excellent condition. Theres over 3000 singles, and over 2000 albums. I have lists that will list the album, as well as the songs, title, record lable and number that are on the album. My grandma feels that it is time to let go after all of these years, and let someone else enjoy them.

She actually checked the book value for the entire collection, and it’s valued at $65,216 (mint). I know that you can’t consider them "mint" if they’ve been opened, so I would say they’re "near mint". Any advice as to where to find buyers would be appreciated. I’ve been in contact with some record stores so far.

Below are download links for the lists. The "1.1" and "2.2" are formatted for Excel 97-2003. The regular "1" and "2" are for Excel 2007.

You know… you could always do the e-bay thing, or try peddling your collection yourself, but it sounds like you may have something really special there and I would strongly advise you to deal with a ‘REPUTABLE’ auction house. At the very least, I would urge you to call/email one before you give it up to a ‘record store’. And don’t forget to play up your grandfathers history! The link is to a very reputable auctioneer here on the west coast. Contact them. I found many auction houses in your area, but frankly, a lot of them look like Mom & Pop operations. ‘Bonhems & Butterfield’ is in a class by itself and they could at the very least point you in the right direction. That’s IF they aren’t interested themselves.

The best of luck to you! ‘Tis a pity you’ve got to give it up.
