My dad died about 3 years ago. When he was younger, he was in many bands and performed all over my home state.
I myself am a musician and want to do more than what my dad did.
My mom told me that this guy was in a band with my dad and now he owns some kind of music management and works with some record lables. This guy was a good friend.
Should i contact him? What would i say and how would i approch him? How can i be professional and ask him to help me?
just call him up and introduce yourself.
say like hello my name is____, my dad was a friend of yours and i was told you two used to play together and be in a band.
he will say something like, yeah the good ol days haha then he might say so what can i help you with or ‘what do u need’
then just tell him that you are very interested in music and tell him about yourself and ask if he might be able to help you. then just go from there.
when u ask him to help u, u can say something like.. im really interested in music and i’m looking for someone to help guide me and show me how to do things. something like that

Define exactly what ‘more than my dad did’ is, then consider going to your dad’s friend. As a pro in the music biz, his time is limited so you want to go in with a specific goal. Do you want to be a studio musician? Touring musician? What kind of experience do you have? Either in the study of music or gigging.

See, you need to have a presentation of what you can do & where you want to go.
As a friend of your dad’s you have a slight edge, but you’re still an unknown to him. Music biz types are very busy so don’t go in there & THEN try to figure out what you want. Good luck!
