What is the difference between a music producer and record label owner?

Sometimes music producers own labels but it is no longer the norm. There is a big difference between a music producer and an executive producer. Many people get credit for producing an album when they fund it, put all the people involved together but that isn’t traditional what a music producer does – that walls under an executive producer title.

A music producer goes into the studio with a band and helps them make the best album possible. Sometimes this person wears other business hats but not always.

Hope that helps,

R

A music producer is part musician, part manager, part magician, part therapist, part pimp, part recording engineer, part @ss kisser, part tyrant, all rolled into one. But the label owner is more like part lawyer, part shyster, part loan shark with good instincts for what will sell.
