Will Record Labels Ever Die?
Today’s episode of the Rock it Out! Blog asks one question: will record labels ever die? Will there ever be an end to the major record labels? Can up and coming bands make it in music without getting signed by major labels?

no, labels could …
no, labels could focus themselves on concerts man everyone goes to those
im trying to make …
im trying to make it in music without labels.
I honestly feel …
I honestly feel that record labels will never die out completely as there will always be a need for them…
Hope so
Hope so
i hope they dont die
i hope they dont die
I dont think record …
I dont think record labels a dying because there are still a lot of people who don’t have access to the internet so I dont think that a indepenend band doesn’t have enough money to support that market with their cds.
no they will not die
no they will not die
them crooked …
them crooked vultures!!!
ok really? how do …
ok really? how do you expect to kill off Epic, Roadrunner, etc etc. theres a few exceptions like major big name bands can get it off with out a label but their still on their label for a reason
I think if major …
I think if major record labels die, which i believe they will, that mostly great bands will get big, because they need more word of mouth to get big, which will only benefit us, the people who go to their shows.
@IzzyBoyadzhieff …
@IzzyBoyadzhieff bands could get a manager to do that for them, and theres websites for booking your own tours nowadays
I can see a few of …
I can see a few of them going under, but the smart ones will adapt. I can see, in the near future perhaps, major record labels striking partnerships or mergers with big corporate companies (Pepsi, Apple etc) in order to not only stay affloat, but also to justify the giant contracts they signed with pop artists years ago when the internet didn’t pose so much of a threat.
No,cause people …
No,cause people download things that are already bought by someone, and the tours are made by record labels
o yeah i definately …
o yeah i definately think they will die…WHEN THE WORLD ENDS!!!!
nice t-shirt!!
nice t-shirt!!
I think they’ll die …
I think they’ll die, like the world will end… as we know them. They won’t just disappear, as long as they drastically alter their methods.
Also, nice shirt! I bought that myself at their show in Amsterdam yesterday.
@BrickUnit Exactly. …
@BrickUnit Exactly. I completely agree with you.
New and unsigned …
New and unsigned bands would find it impossible to get established. they can’t give away they records for free all the time otherwise they would make no money and all the big promotions than get bands established like support tours, adverts and magazine coverage is all very hard to achieve without a label. I think that record labels won’t die until unsigned bands have a clear and reliable path to success
once they die, …
once they die, people are going to start being artistic again. no more redundant themes and on to originality (hopefully)
There shouldn’t be …
There shouldn’t be a music “industry”.
i think the …
i think the question is not ”will the record labels ever die?” but ”when will the record labels die?”
record labels will …
record labels will die; publishing companies are soon going to be the new record companies since thats where all the money seems to be at. its no argument that all the money in music today is earned from writing, sure there is some in touring and what not, but illegal downloads have sent cd and record sales to the dogs, soon bands will be signed to production companies, mark my words
If only they would …
If only they would die… I doubt they will.
tom delonge’s band …
tom delonge’s band AVA used modlife to release their free album LOVE without a major label.
I hope so.. …
I hope so.. Universal keeps delaying the deluxe DVD of alter bridge..
