I did 20 years in the AF, mostly in the reserves, and many of those at Tinker. I well remember the hot (temperature) summer of 1980 here in OK when this song rocketed to stardom. Great songs like this one to temper the hot weather. Yes, good memories.

No, I’m not from OK, I was going to school in Stillwater (OSU) at the time and my parents lived in OKC. I now live in NJ after 21 years in Air Force but I remember those days like it was yesterday. I too am grateful for finding this music on the web. It reminds of good times long ago.

tbwithers: are you from Norman, OK? I just read your text. I live here in Norman, and damn, I missed them here then. Gosh, what a GREAT song. Dale’s solos rocked big time. Glad we can still hear it here on this posting.

I saw them in the early 80′s in Norman, OK. Gary Rossington and Allen Collins were both waisted, they kept knocking Dale Krants mic stand over with their guitar knecks. Still, it was an awesome show. Dale reminded me of Joplin because of the soul she put into the music. I don’t think they could do it again, but I was grateful for the experience.

As powerful as Gary and Allen and Billy and Leon were, this band would have never made it w/o the fresh energy Barry Harwood brought to the table. This tune and so many of their best over their two studio albums are proof of that. Pine Box, Fancy Ideas, etc. This one most of all though.
