“Miguel Migs (real name Michael Steward, also known by the pseudonym Petalpusher) is a Deep House Disc jockey and producer from San Francisco, California.

Migs began his music career at 18 years old, as a lead guitarist and songwriter for a Santa Cruz local band called Zion Sounds. The band split up in the mid-1990s, however Zion Sounds african and jamaican style is said to have been a major influence in Migs personal career. After the band dissolved, Miguel Migs went on to explore electronic music production.

Miguel has produced over 100 remixes to date, including remixes for a number of mainstream artists. Such artists include Britney Spears, Macy Gray and Lionel Richie. Migs has been associated with a variety of record labels, most notably Naked Music Recordings.

In 1998 Miguel co-founded the deep house record label Transport Recordings, along with fellow DJ MFR and Naked Music label director Bruno Ybarra. According to a 2004 article by Stephen Thanabalan in DJ Magazine, Migs was credited for his soul-driven vibes and hailed as one of the pioneers of the nascent house and chill-out revival scene alongside Dimitri from Paris and Bob Sinclair as a result of his early foray into Deep House in the late 1990s and early 2000s, releasing several highly sought after singles and remixes under the Petalpusher pseudonym. Most recently, in 2005, he founded Salted Music, a record label under Om Records.

Miguel Migs stands at the forefront of electronic musics soulful realm. Whether tackling his original productions or remixes, he achieves an organic-soulful sound by combining the best of both the electronic music world and live instrumentation.

For many years, Miguels productions have been included on countless compilations and his records have slid into the crates of top DJs across the globe. His music has also landed on numerous TV Shows, including Six Feet Under, Sex in the City, and MTVs Road Rules and Real World.

Contrary to many of his club-centric DJ/producer peers, Miguel is not always concerned with the potential dance floor appeal of his soulful tracks. Its music you can enjoy and listen to at home, in the club, or anywhere. Not necessarily just to rock the dance floor. explains the Northern California native, who grew up with a true love of reggae, soul, classic rock, jazz, hip-hop and just about everything else.

His impressive discography includes more than 100 original productions and remixes on seminal independent labels such as Salted Music, Naked Music, Astralwerks, Yoshitoshi, NRK, Black Vinyl, Large, Chez, Transport Recordings, Om Records, Defected Records and many others. His recordings have consistently made waves in the underground circuit and have landed on DJ hype charts internationally. He is highly regarded when it comes to remixes, having worked with major label artists such as Macy Gray, Lionel Ritchie and Britney Spears. Miguel additionally has released numerous mix CD compilations on labels including Defected, Naked Music, Southport Weekender and NRK.

Never one to sit still, Migs started his own label Salted Music in 2004. Having been associated with an extensive number of labels throughout his career, he came to realize a desire to have his own base, a vehicle for building his own catalogue of quality material. Salted Music is a foundation for Migs to choose and release music that inspires him, as well as release his own productions and compilations.

As a producer, Miguel realizes a strong connection between his electronic music productions and live musical background. He writes his own lyrics and plays his own instruments, be it guitar, bass, percussion or keyboard.

As a DJ, Miguel was recognized and nominated for best DJ in the 2004 House Music Awards held in London. Migs maintains the same approach to his sets as to his productions, combining a variety of influences and styles fused together. The result is funky, deep, soulful, bumping house music. I like to mix it up and keep it moving smoothly, taking the dance floor through a very spontaneous mix into the realms of quality, deep house music depending on the mood in the room, says Migs. But, whether its vocal, tracky, dubby, moody, percussive or broken beat, the sound always remains soulful and funky.”

During the last few years, Gamat 3000 has published sweet, deep and sensible house music and electronic tracks on the German record labels Freude Am Tanzen, Dessous, Lo-Fi Stereo and FM Recordings.

“Feeling Love” on Freude Am Tanzen was a major club hit and was licensed for various compilations, such as “Für Dich” on Kompakt (by Tobias Thomas). He is better known as Immortal Technique, is a hip hop MC and political activist.
He is of Afro-Peruvian descent and was raised in Harlem, New York.
Most of his lyrics focus on socio-political issues.
The views expressed in his lyrics are largely a mixture of commentary on issues such as poverty, religion, and racism.
He also focuses on the harsh resulting realities of criminality in the housing projects of New York City’s slums.
Although he has been offered a deal with at least one major record label, he has never signed to any.
Immortal Technique has voiced a desire to keep control over his production, and has made statements in his music that he is very aware that it is record companies, not the artists themselves, who profit the most from mass production and marketing of music and has said:
”He would rather make a lot of a little, than a little of a lot.”
He releases his music through, and is also the president of, Viper Records.
In 2001, Immortal Technique released his first album CD, Revolutionary Vol. 1, without the help of a record label or distribution. He self-financed, manufactured, and sold copies of the record on the streets. In November 2002, he was listed by The Source as the month’s featured “Unsigned Hype”, which highlights artists that are not signed to a record label. The following year, in September 2003, he received the coveted “Hip Hop Quotable” in The Source for a song entitled “Industrial Revolution” from his second album. Consequently, since he did not have a record deal or distribution at the time, Immortal Technique is the only rapper in history to have a “Hip Hop Quotable” while being unsigned. He finally released his second album Revolutionary Vol. 2 in 2003 under Viper Records/Nature Sounds distribution on CD and double LP. The album sold around 65,000 units according to SoundScan figures, but estimates reach as far as 80,000 considering his large underground street distribution wing that made him famous in the NYC area.
In 2004, Viper Records and, in 2005, Babygrande Records have re-released Immortal Technique’s debut, Revolutionary Vol. 1, to make it available to a wider audience.
Before the presidential race in November 2004, the Immortal Technique song “Bin Laden”, featuring Mos Def, Eminem and produced by DJ Green Lantern, emerged on Shade 45: Sirius Bizness. However, it took almost half a year until it was officially released on a 12″ vinyl single in the summer of 2005. The single also contained a remix of the song featuring hip-hop legends Chuck D of Public Enemy and KRS-One. The song accuses the Bush administration of destroying the world trade buildings on 911, not Osama Bin Laden. Indeed, in a recent interview, Mos Def revealed that he believed the twin towers had been brought down via controlled demolition.

Earlier the same year, Immortal Technique appeared (as himself) in the independent movie This Revolution, which is set during the 2004 Republican National Convention in New York City, and chronicles the protests surrounding the convention in a pseudo-documentary style. The movie also featured Viper Records affiliates Akir and producer/engineer Toure “Southpaw” Harris in smaller speaking roles.

Since then Immortal Technique has been promoted to president and A&R of Viper Records and has signed a distribution deal with Babygrande Records for his next album. He has also made Southpaw the head A&R of Viper Records and executive produced Akir’s Legacy album.
In 2006, the song “Impeach the President”, featuring dead prez, Saigon, and Immortal Technique, emerged on the DJ Green Lantern mixtape Alive on Arrival. The song is a cover version of the 1973 single by The Honeydrippers, using the original chorus, but it has new verses in which the rappers express their wish that president George W. Bush be impeached.
Immortal Technique is currently working on several new projects; a mix tape with DJ Green Lantern entitled The Third World that will be the final volume in the “Revolutionary” series, the long delayed (since 2005) third album The Middle Passage, and a documentary DVD entitled Urban Warfare.
He is a co-founder of the Grassroots Artists MovEment (G.A.ME), which provides healthcare for the underground artists that it works with.
He has participated along with SJP in the fundraising that brought tens of thousands of dollars to children’s hospitals in Palestine.
